Boosts in Telegram: activation secrets and engagement strategies

What are Telegram Boosts?

Boosts in Telegram function similarly to the system used in Discord, allowing subscribers with a Premium status to support their favorite channels with votes. A user can support only one channel at a time but is allowed to change their choice every 24 hours. When a user reassigns their boost to a new channel, the previous vote is automatically canceled.

The Telegram Boost system is designed to unlock new features for channels through the votes of their subscribers. One of the key benefits is the ability to publish stories in a channel or chat. When a channel collects the required number of votes, it gains access to additional features.

To activate boosts, a channel administrator must publish a special link. By following this link, subscribers can boost the channel with a single tap, and their vote will start contributing to the channel’s statistics.

How Telegram Boost works and how many votes each user receives

Originally, each Telegram Premium user received one vote to support a channel. However, on November 6, 2023, the system underwent major changes:

  • When purchasing Premium for themselves, a user receives four votes.

  • When gifting a Premium subscription, the giver receives three votes, and the recipient receives one vote.

  • If a subscription is gifted by a channel, no votes are awarded.

Votes can accumulate. For example, if a user buys a subscription for themselves and gifts two more, they will receive ten votes: four for their own subscription and three for each gifted one.

Users can distribute their votes across multiple channels or focus all of them on a single channel. Votes remain active until the Premium subscription expires or until the user reallocates them to another channel.

Important vote management rules:

  • Users with unassigned votes cannot view the total count or expiration time of their votes.

  • A vote that has already been assigned cannot be withdrawn unless reassigned or until the subscription expires.

  • If a vote is transferred to another channel, the previous channel immediately loses that boost.

  • Stories already published within the 24 hours before a vote was transferred remain visible until they expire.

How to open the "Statistics" section and copy the Boost link

To find the boost link:

  1. Open the channel profile.

  2. Tap the three dots in the top right corner.

  3. Select "Statistics".

  4. Inside the section you will find the boost link, ready to copy and share.

You can pin this link in your channel, send it to subscribers, or use it to create boost tasks on our platform.

Why should you boost your Telegram channel?

Boosts are designed to increase audience engagement and strengthen interaction between content creators and their community. Boosting is a form of appreciation from subscribers and a reflection of the value of your content.

The boost system also enables channels to publish stories. Each boost level grants one additional story per day. The more levels a channel reaches, the more stories it can post.

The number of boosts required to level up is calculated using the formula:

0.004 × total number of subscribers
(0.4% rounded up).

It is important to note that even if a channel receives the required number of votes, the administrator must have an active Premium subscription to publish stories. Without it, stories cannot be posted.

Telegram plans to expand the Boost system in the future, offering more interactive features for channels.

Can channel owners see who boosted their Telegram channel?

Yes, but with limitations.

Channel administrators can only see:

  • the last 25 users who boosted the channel;

  • the expiration date for each boost;

  • the number of Premium users among subscribers.

The statistics section also displays:

  • the current channel level;

  • the total number of boosts received;

  • the number of boosts needed to reach the next level.

For public channels, this information is visible to all users via the boost link.
For private channels, it is visible only to subscribers.

Why do large channels require more boosts to level up?

Every Telegram channel starts at level 0 and cannot publish stories. To reach the first level, a channel must collect votes equal to 0.4% of its subscriber count.

This means that:

  • the larger the channel,

  • the more votes it needs for each level.

Even a channel with just one subscriber needs at least one boost to progress.

Maximum levels in Telegram and how to use Boost links

Telegram allows channels to reach up to 100 levels.
Each level adds +1 story per day, up to a maximum of 100 stories.

The number of votes required to reach each new level remains constant:
the same number needed to reach level 1 (0.4% of subscribers).

How to use a boost link:

Boosting is only possible through a special link. You can generate it manually:

Alternatively, for a private channel:

  1. Copy the link to any message.

  2. Remove the ending numeric message ID.

  3. Add ?boost to the end.

Admins can also provide an updated boost link directly.
